Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to Meet with China, Japan, and Israel Envoys

The tough-talking mayor of Davao City and Presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte is scheduled to meet with China, Japan and Israel envoys in Davao City. Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is scheduled to meet with the Ambassador of China to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua on Monday.

Mayor Duterte PresidentIn an interview with the media on Sunday night, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said that he is goint to meet the Ambassador Zhao Jianhua from China. Aside from meeting the Chinese envoys, Mayor Duterte also added that he is also going meet the Ambassador of Israel, Effie Ben Matityau, and Japan’s ambassador Kazuhide Ishikawa.

According to Mayor Rody Duterte during election day last week, he stated that if he becomes president of the Republic he would call for multilateral talks to resolve disputes over the South China Sea, which should include the United States and Japan as well as rival claimants.

Mayor Duterte also noted that China should respect the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone in the waters off its coast and, instead of facing off, the two countries could work together in exploiting offshore oil and gas as joint-venture partners.

During the election campaign, Mayor Rody Duterte promised to the Filipino people that he will pursue a bilateral talks with China and if given the chance he wants to have a joint venture with our neighbors who have been asserting their claims in the entire South China Sea. One of the conditions proposed by Mayor Duterte is that he wants China to build a railway system in Mindanao in exchange of joint Philippine-Chinese explorations.
