Duterte Camps Denied Report that Mayor Duterte will Back Out from Presidential Debate in Cebu

There are rumors circulating online that the tough-talking mayor of Davao City, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will not be attending the second presidential debates which will be held this coming Sunday at the University of the Philippines in Cebu City. Duterte’s camp denied the rumors and noted that Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will surely attend the debate in Cebu City.

Peter Laviña, spokesman of Duterte, said “there is no truth to stories that Duterte will back out of the debate because it will be held in UP Cebu.” According the spokesman of the Duterte camp, they were alerted on Thursday about an allege bogus poster circulating online saying Mayor Duterte would be a no-show at the debate.

He said the information originated in Cebu and “given through a bogus poster circulating online, was made to appear to be in connection with the recent visit of Duterte at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, Laguna.”

The spokesperson of the 70-year-old Mayor Duterte noted that their opponents are currently using a squid tactic to confuse their supporters and paint that their candidate is coward, liar and disengaging-things that he is not. “This is the handiwork of people or groups threatened by the surge of Duterte’s ratings in the surveys,” he added.

The reports that Mayor Duterte will not be attending the highly anticipated presidential debate is an “insidious black propaganda.
