According to Argentina’s coast guard they pursued a Chinese fishing vessel Lu Yuan 010 toward international waters, firing warning shots across the Chinese boat’s bow as it attempted to raise the crew by radio. The coast guard even stated that that offending Chinese ship performed maneuvers designed to force a collision with the guard guard.

The coast guard of Argentina used radar to pick up the trawler fishing off the coast of Puerto Madryn, Chubut Province, the zone was very popular with squid fishing.

The coast guard noted that they fired shots into the hull of the Chinese vessel after it ignored radio calls to allow the Argentine coast guard to board and repeated warning signing. The crew of the Chinese vessels abandoned the ship when the vessel began to go down, four crewmen were rescued while others were picked up by another Chinese vessel.

A spokesman for Argentina’s foreign ministry said the judiciary was investigating the incident. Officials at the Chinese Embassy in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, were not available for comment.
