Top 11 Richest Persons in the Philippines Based on Forbes 2016 Rankings

The global leader on money and finance topics, Forbes Magazine released their latest richest people on the planet list for the year 2016. Based upon the Forbes richest list, eleven Filipino tycoons made it to the elite list of richest person in the world with more than a billion dollars in net worth.

The list of richest Filipinos remains the same compared to the 2015 list of richest Filipinos despite the global market volatility, oil price slump and strengthening of the US dollar.

According to Forbes Magazine which ranked the world’s richest for the 30th year, a total of 1,810 billionaires are included in the list globally. The figure was down from a record 1,826 billionaires a year ago.

Based upon the estimates of Forbes Magazines, the world’s richest people had a combined net worth of $6.5 trillion, or $570 billion less than last year.

In the Philippines the Forbes list of richest people was dominated by the country’s richest person, Henry Sy, founder of the SM Group with an estimated net worth of $12.9 billion – down form last year’s $14.2 billion. Henry Sy is also the lone Filipino who made it to the Forbes’ top 100 richest person in the world.

Aside from Henry Sy, another Filipino-Chinese tycoon, John Gokongwei made it to the list of the richest Filipino and and for the second straight time he ranked at the No. 2 spot. The JG Summit Holdings founder Gokongwei saw a decline in his fortune to $5 billion from $5.8 billion.

Ranking as the third richest Filipino is the former richest Filipino Lucio Tan, the man behind the LT Group Inc., which operates, Asia Brewery, Tanduay Distillers, Fortune Tobacco and PNB to name a few.
