DedEd Reminded School Officials Not to Turn Graduation Rites into Political Event

The country’s education department, the Department of Education (DepEd) has reminded school officials not to turn graduation rites into a political event. According to Education Secretary Armin Luistro, he already released a department order intended for schools under DepEd.

Secretary Armin Luistro said that the end of of school year rites should be an appropriate and solemn ceremony befitting the learners and their parents and should not be used as a political forum.

DepEd reiterated that its “Clean Schools, Clean Elections” program, which aims to ensure that schools and teachers are protected from overt politicking.

“DepEd calls on organizers of political rallies and public meetings to always be mindful of the environment and be responsible in cleaning and removing the campaign materials after the rally or meeting,” said the agency.

This school year 2015-2016 graduation rites theme is “Kabataang Mula sa K to 12, Tagapagdala ng Kaunlaran sa Bansang Pilipinas.”

The Department Order also noted that this year’s graduation rites will focus on the K to 12 program as a transformative vehicle for local and national development.
