The Philippine military is now developing an existing naval facility located on Oyster Bay, Palawan could host United States Military and is capable of hosting US Troops and facilities or can be develop into a Mini Subic in Palawan.
There is still no official confirmation from the Philippine military about the reported development of the Oyster Bay, which is located on the edge of the primary forest reservation facing the South China Sea. The Naval Forces West (Navforwest) facility on Oyster Bay is close to the islands and reefs the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia, China and Taiwan are disputing.
According to some military experts, the Oyster Bay facility is the most suitable to host US troops after the Subic Bay facility in Olongapo City have been dismantled together with the US Air Force facility at Clark Air Base in Pampanga.
The Oyster Bay in Palawan was previously accessible only by sea from the pier of its local community, Puerto Princesa’s northern village of Macarascas, Oyster Bay will soon be linked to the urban center by a highway now under construction.
Work on the 12-kilometer access road is being undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for Navforwest. “The purpose of this road is for easy access of our troops from Oyster Bay to Puerto Princesa, transporting materials for construction of new barracks for our troops and accessibility of Navy ships,” Lt. Ariesh Climacosa, spokesperson for Navforwest, stated.
