City of Manila Announced “No Classes” On January 9 for the Black Nazarene Feast

The local government of the City of Manila announced on Tuesday the cancellation of classes on January 9, 2016 to give way for the Black Nazarene Feast. Manila City Administrator Ericson Alcovendaz said classes will be suspended in all levels on Saturady, January 9, 2016.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, the City of Manila announced the suspension of classes and several roads will be closed and there is an anticipated heavy traffic for the forthcoming feast of Black Nazarene where millions of devotees are expected to hold a procession which is popularly known as “traslacion.”

The “Traslación” procession is considered as the largest of the three, drawing millions of devotees and lasting anywhere from 14 to 20 hours.

The feast of the Black Nazarene celebrated every year in Manila is one of the major festivities attended by Filipino Catholics from all walks of life and from the different provinces near Metro Manila.

According to the organizers of the Black Nazarene Feast, the procession of the Black Nazarene replica will will be brought to the Quirino Grandstand where the route of the procession will start and it will end at Quiapo Church.
