“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” Box Office Income Surpasses Titanic

The highly popular space movie of all time, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” raked in an additional $88.3 million over the New Year’s weekend and topping the box office for a third week as revealed by a studio estimates Sunday. The movie already set a new high mark in New Year’s box office history.

Star Wars already broke the domestic gross record set by Jurassic World ($652.3 million) and “Titanic” ($658.7 million) to become the second-highest earner of all time with $740.3 million in just 19 days of release.

The only remaining movie that is yet to be broken by Star Wars is the film “Avatar” with a $760.5 million lifetime domestic gross, but “Star Wars” is barreling will probably surpass it soon. The domestic gross income of Avatar took the movie 72 days to reach the $700 record while Star Wars did it within 16 days.

For the international box office income of Star Wars, the movie earned $96.3 million this weekend, boosting its global total $184.6 million. The movie is expected to reach a record-breaking box office income once it will open in the world’s largest country, China this coming January 9, 2016.
