Two of the Davao’s most prominent political clans, the Duterte’s and the Nograles ended their feud after 30 years for a common good of the city. Former House Speaker Prospero Nograles Jr., and Davao City Mayor and now presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte have ended their political feud.
Former Rep. Prospero Nograles Jr. said that his family which include reelectionist Davao Rep Karlo Nograles, will support the campaign of his cousin-in-law, Mayo Rodrigo Duterte.
In an official statement released to the media on Saturday, the former House Speaker stated”Yesterday is a historic day, nag announce na si Duterte, my enemy for 30 years and I am publicly supporting him.” Nograles stated.
According to the former house speaker, Rep. Prospero Nograles Jr., he will campaign for the mayor’s bid to run for President, whether the mayor will appreciate it or not. He was quoted as saying “I will campaign for him, whether he appreciate it or not. Tapos na ang LQ,” former speaker Nograles said.
The Nograles family in Davao is considered as one of the strongest political opponents of the Duterte but right now politics is never personal and Davao must be united against others, rivalry is purely local, according to the Nograles family leader.
Rep. Nograles and the family of Mayor Duterte had been bitter political rivals, the former speaker lost to Mayor Duterte in the 1992 and 1998 elections for mayor while in 2010, Nograles ran but lost to Duterte’s daughter Inday Sara for mayor of Davao.
