The plans of Pres. Obama to board the former US vessel is one of the highlight of the American commitment to regional maritime security.

The 54-year-old President Barrack Obama will board the US-made former coast guard cutter turned flagship of the Philippine Navy, the BRP Gregorio del Pilar, shortly after arriving in the Philippine capital of Manila for the annual trade talks with Asia-Pacific (APEC) leaders.

According to the White House’s statement, the US president planned an event that showcased “US maritime security assistance to the Philippines and the region.”

President Barrack Obama will stay in the Philippines for a total of three days during the APEC Summit hosted by the country this week.
