Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares from Negros Occidental filed his certificate of candidacy for Senator on Monday at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) head office in Intramuros, Manila as one of his avid supporter, cousin Angel Locsin accompanied the lawmaker.
Rep. Colmenares vows to provide better services to the people, he was accompanied by prominent labor leader and former Bayan Muna Representative Satur Ocampo and actress Angel Locsin.
Kapamilya star Angel Locsin whose real name is Angelica Colmenares is one of Neri Colmenares cousins. According to Rep. Colmenares he wants to run for senator so that there will be a fighter in the senate.
Angel Locsin is technically Colmenares’ aunt but the family of the actress considers the militant lawmaker as their cousin. The actress was not only there to support her relative’s intention to run for a senate seat but because she believes the principles being upheld by the Makabayan bloc.
The Makabayan bloc in the Philippine congress will field a senatorial candidate for a third consecutive national elections after Satur Ocampo and Liza Maza in 2010 and Teddy Casiño in 2013. None of the three won.
