Gilas Pilipinas Wins Silver Medal in the 2015 Jones Cup Just Behind Iran

The Philippine national basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas won the silver medal of the recently concluded 2015 Jones Cup held in Taiwan after they routed the young but talented Chinese Taipei Team B with the final score of 96-67. Gilas Pilipinas 3.0 was just behind the overall winner Iran national basketball team.

The Filipinos finished the tournament with a 6-2 win-loss record, only behind the powerhouse team, Iran which finished with the gold medal with their impressive 7-1 win-loss record in the international invitational basketball tournament held at the Xinzhuang Stadium in Taipei.

Gilas Pilipinas 3.0 suffered their two losses against South Korea and Iran in the nine-team tournament as they ended the competition with an impressive showing as they finished Taiwan’s Team B with 0-8 win-loss record in the competition.

During the game against Chinese Taipei-B, the Filipinos was led by Gilas veteran Gary David who scored with 22 points, while Asia’s most popular point guard Jayson Castro added with 15 points and back-up naturalized player Maola Tautuaa scored with 12 markers.

Gilas Pilipinas played a dismal performance during the fist minutes of the game against the Taiwanese but later on they were able to bounce back but only led just by three points, 24-21 in the first quarter.

The Filipinos outscored their last opponent in the tournamnet during the second quarter with an impressive 26-11 performance and 32-21 scores in the third and finally take complete control of the ball game and secured the silver medal of the competition.

Gilas notched victories over Chinese Taipei-A (77-69), Spartak Primorye (85-71), Japan (75-60), the Wellington Saints (92-88), and USA Overtake Select (78-74) before routing Chinese Taipei-B to wrap up its campaign in the tournament.
