Passenger Vessel MV Wonderful Stars Caught Fire in Ormoc City

MV Wonderful Stars, a passenger vessel from Cebu City caught fire early Saturday morning, August 15, 2015 shortly after docking at the pier in Ormoc City, Leyte. The vessel came from Cebu City carries a total of 544 passengers, 17 of whom were children.

According to Ormoc Coast Guard commander Giovanni Bergantin, at around 9:00 AM today, fire fighters were still working to put out the blaze that engulfed MV Wonderful Stars of Roble Shipping Lines.

Based upon the initial reports from the Philippine Coast Guard, there was no reported casualty in the fire that broke out from the crew’s quarters around 3:00 AM.

During the incident, the passengers had just disembarked from the vessel the fire of still unknown origin broke out. For the past few months, Ormoc City made headlines due to some incidents from the sea.

Last July 2015, the ferry M/B Kim Nirvana capsized off Ormoc, killing 61 passengers.
