Coach Tab Baldwin of the Gilas Pilipinas gathered his pool players for the first time as part of the national team’s preparations in the FIBA Asia 2015. Some of the new faces joining the Gilas mainstays were Terrence Romeo, Asi Taulava, JC Intal, Troy Rosario and Matt Ganuelas Rosser.
The first practice of the Gilas Pilipinas 3.0 was held at the Meralco Gym, as Coach Tab Baldwin presided over the light practice session of the team, that was announced to the media and was therefore conducted in a relatively low-key and relaxed atmosphere.
Aside from the above mentioned names, the other new players who were invited were Alaska’s Sonny Thoss and Dondon Hontiveros while Asi Taulava is considered as the oldest member of the Gilas pool at 43 years old.
According to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Officials, the official line-up of the Gilas Pilipinas 3.0 will be revealed later but they noted that the announcement could be held on Monday.
Some of Gilas Pilipinas holdovers were also present during the practice session of Gilas, they were Talk ‘N Text pair of Jayson Castro and Ranidel de Ocampo together with Meralco’s Gary David.
Alaska coach Alex Compton was also present during the practice, ending speculations that he will be part of the coaching staff of Gilas Pilipinas. Compton joins Norman Black of Meralco, Talk ‘N Text coach Jong Uichico and TnT assistant Nash Racela in running the drills.
