The No. 1 senator during last year’s senatorial elections, Senator Grace Poe revealed during an exclusive interview with ANC that President Aquino wants her as the running mate of the Liberal Party’s presidential candidate DTI Sec. Mar Roxas. The senator noted that the President didn’t have to say a word, but his body language said it all.
According to Senator Grace Poe it was her reading of what the President might have wanted to tell her directly – but did not – during their three long dinner meetings recently.
During an interview with ANC, it was the first time that Sen. Poe had disclosed substantial information about her meetings with President Aquino and during the meeting, DTI Secretary Mar Roxas was also present along with Sen. Francis Escudero.
Some ally of the Liberal Party, the ruling administration party already noted that the presumptive presidential candidate of the administration is no other than the DILG Secretary Mar Roxas. President Aqino is expected to declare Mar Roxas as his preferred successor before the week is over.
Although Mar Roxas is faring badly in surveys compared to Sen. Grace Poe who dislodged Vice President Binay from the top spot, the administration is still confident that Mar Roxas can rebound on his survey ratings as possible presidential candidates for 2016.
Sen. Grace Poe, however, emphasized that the President did not indicate in clear terms that he wanted her to be Roxas’ running mate. Right now, Sen. Grace Poe noted that she is still in a “period of discernment” and that she has not yet decided whether to run next year or which higher office to aim for.
