While working on two wards at Stepping Hill Hospital in northwest England, Victorino Chua, 49, injected insulin into saline bags, ampoules and other healthcare products causing two dead patients.

Chua was hailed guilty of murdering two of the patients and also causing grievous body harm to a third who was left brain damaged.

“He has committed a dreadful crime and he must now pay the price,” Manchester Crown Court judge Peter Openshaw said.

Chua was arrested in January 2012 and was found Monday guilty on two counts of murder, one for grievous bodily harm and 22 counts of attempted grievous bodily harm.

Case detectives described the nurse as a narcissistic psychopath and said he had shown a complete lack of remorse for his crimes.

In a letter found at his home, Chua described himself as “an angel turned into an evil person”, adding “there’s a devil in me”.

However, the judges said in his sentencing remarks Tuesday: “What he did was inexplicable and irrational,”
