Vice President Jejomar Binay Hurt By Mar Roxas’ Rejection As His Running Mate

Vice President Jejomar Binay was hurt when Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas rejected his offer to become his running mate on 2016 national elections.

Binay’s spokesman Joey Salgada told the reporters that “Vice President Binay is saddened by the reported reaction of Secretary Roxas to his offer.”

“The Vice President simply wanted to stress the need for healing and unity,” the spokesman said in an interview on Saturday, April 11, 2015.

Joey Salgado was referring on the statement of Roxas who noted that he “will never tread the crooked path.” Despite the fact that the two were hailed from rival parties he considered Roxas as a vice presidential ally. Binay is from United Nationalist Alliance while Roxas is from Liberal Party.

Binay is currently facing allegations regarding his involvement in the overpriced installment of Makati City Hall park building. But he claimed that the assertions as “spurious and even fake documents”.

According to the spokesman, if ever Binay wins the presidential seat. “His administration will work with all political parties, including non-allies. That was the spirit and intent of the offer which was made in all sincerity,” Salgado noted.

During the press interview, the spokesman also decries charges by which other members of Liberal Party are facing.
