Ateneo Made History in UAAP Defeated La Salle to Win the Title

Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles made a history in the UAAP Women’s Volleyball when they defeated the La Salle Lady Spikers captured the title with a 16-0 win-loss card. Ateneo defeated La Salle with the final score of 25-22, 25-17, and 25-23 during the game 2 of the UAAP Women’s Volleyball finals.

The Lady Eagles won their second straight championship title and became the first UAAP women’s volleyball team to achieve a perfect 16-0 record. The Ateneo vs. La Salle game was held at the well-attended Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, March 14, 2015.

The last time a UAAP women’s volleyball team made a sweep was way back the year 2004 when the La Salle Lady Spikers win all 14 elimination round games and automatically awarded with the championship title. In the men’s volleyball, the University of Sto. Tomas also went 16-0 in the 2009 season.

During the Game 2 of the UAAP Women’s Volleyball championship, the Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Spikers in front of a crowd of 20,705 fans at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Two-time Most Valuable Player Alyssa Valdez led the Lady Eagles with a 20 points on 19 attacks and got plenty of help from her teammates Michelle Morente, Bea de Leon and Ammy Ahomiro who all scored with 10 points.

Ammy Ahomiro anchored the Ateneo’s net defense and was later named UAAP Women’s Volleyball Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP).
