Marlisa Punzalan Enters “The X Factor” Australia Grand Finals (Video)

The lone Filipino bet in the “X Factor Australia,” Marlisa Punzalan secured a spot in the grand finals of the world-renowned talent search. The 15-year-old Filipina will go up against Brothers3 and Dean Ray in the last three acts performing for Australia’s votes this coming October 19, 2014.

During the Sunday’s performance, Marlisa Punzalan was among the bottom two performers alongside Reigan Derry in the tension-filled semis of the singing competition.

The Filipino contestant performed the song popularized by Beatles titled “Help,” while her opponent Reigan Derry performed Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” Because of a very fortunate events, the judges scored a “deadlock,” so the contestant advancing to the grand finals was instead based on the public votes. It was revealed later that Marliza Punzalan got a higher number of votes compared to Reigan Derry.

Before the announcement of Marlisa Punzalan as one of the finalist in the X Factor Australia, the Filipino singer impressed the judges already with her renditions of Alicia Keys’ “Girl On Fire” and James Arthur’s “Impossible.” She was backed by Danniie Minogue and her mentor Ronan Keating.

According to the official announcement released by the X Factor Australia, before the final performance next Sunday, October 19, 2014, the top three finalist will stage a concert on their respective hometowns on Wednesday, October 16, 2014.

The X Factor Australia finalists Dean Ray and Brothers3 will perform in Meandarra and Mudgee respectively while Marlisa Punzalan will have a homecoming concert in Mount Druitt, New South Wales, Australia.
