P01 Aurea Jane Manalaysay: Celebrity Cop of Manila Police District

Police Officer 1 (PO1) Aurea Jane Manalaysay earned the reputation as “Darling of the Press,” or a “Celebrity Cop,” of the Manila Police District after she captured the attentions of photojournalists as the one and only lady riot cop who is part of the PNP’s crowd dispersal.

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN, PO1 Manalaysay was asked why she dubbed as the “darling of the press,” she replied by stating “Well, because I’m the only girl here,” Manalaysay stated.

The policewoman was credited for easing the tension and flaring tempers of protesters during various protest in Metro Manila particularly during the July 4, 2014 US Embassy protest which was conducted by League of Filipino Students (LFS) and other militant groups.

The group called for junking the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) which paves the way for expanded military cooperation between the United States and the Philippines. The group also called for the abolition of the pork barrel system.

The riot lady cop, PO1 Manalaysay charmed the protesters with her abilities to ease the tensions of the violent protests. According to PO1 Aurea Jane Manalaysay, when she was assigned to the task as a member of the PNP’s crowd dispersal team, she just noted that if the boys can do it then why she can’t.

In handling violent protests PO1 Manalaysay added that she handles those kind of situations based upon her previous training, which according to lady cop, they always provide maximum tolerance at all times.

SPO1 Aurea Jane Manalaysay worked as a policewoman for two years in a row. She is now assigned to the Philippine National Police (PNP) District Police Safety Batallion (DPSB), a group of police officers who are in charge of crowd dispersal.
