During the interview aired on TV Patrol, reporter Mario Dumaual, Miss Philippines Earth contestant Pircelyn Pialago was asked why her close friend, Leslie Ann Pine, suddenly collapsed during the pageant’s bikini competition on Wednesday, she answered with the following statement.

“She passed away [sic] kasi she’s really hungry,” Pialago said.

“I kept on inviting her to eat breakfast but she didn’t want to eat kasi we’re under weight watch,” she added. “There are like six girls who are under weight watch, for big tummies and stuff. We’re not really allowed to eat much, so she’s really depriving herself.” Pialago said during the interview.

Miss Philippines Earth contestant Leslie Ann Pine, a Filipino-American representing San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija, lost consciousness around midnight shortly after the awarding ceremony of the Miss Philippines Earth Swimsuit Competition.

The Miss Philippines Earth Swimsuit Competition was held at the Solaire Resort & Casino in Parañaque City. Right after Miss Leslie Ann Pine’s incident, she was rushed to a hospital in Ortigas where she was diagnosed to have had “electrolytes imbalance” but she discharged from the hospital on Thursday morning.

Shortly after the report was posted on ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol, netizens reacted with the wrong use of “passed away” in referring to Leslie Ann losing consciousness. Miss Philippines Earth Pircelyn Pialogo on her part made a statement through a text message, asking sorry for incorrectly using the term, adding that she was “just really tensed [sic] about what happened to Leslie during that time.” she noted.

Pircelyn Pialogo was quoted as saying “Can’t imagine that this mistake will make me trending in social media. Sorry a lot! Please don’t be too harsh, people,” she added.
