Lupita Nyong ‘O was declared as the winner of the 2014 Academy Awards Best Actress in a Supporting role during the awarding ceremony held on Sunday, March 2, 2014 (Monday Morning Philippines) on her portrayal in the top-grossing movie “12 Years Slave.”

The 31-year-old Lupita Nyong ‘O won her first feature film role, she also received a standing ovation during the awarding ceremony at the Oscars 2014 held a at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

The Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong ‘O, who was admired by Brad Pitt as one of Hollywood’s future stars, she played the role of a hardworking slave “Patsy” in the drama film. She was able to beat Oscars frontrunner Jennifer Lawrence who portrays the role of a loopy housewife in “American Hustle.”

The actress exclaimed “Yes!” during the awarding ceremony after she hugged her “12 Years Slave” director Steve McQueen and other stars of the movie. Lupita Nyong ‘O was quoted as saying “It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s, and so I want to salute the spirit of Patsey, for her guidance.” she said.

The Yale-trained actress Lupita Nyong ‘O added another award to her growing list of recognition, she was also awarded previously as Best Supporting Actress at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in January 2o14.

Lupita Nyong ‘O was able to defeat her fellow Hollywood actress in the Best Supporting Actress category. Some of the competitors in Best Supporting actress are Jennifer Lawrence, June Squibb and Julia Roberts.
