Manny Pacquiao to Receive BIR Award Despite P2.2 Billion Tax Case

Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao is set to receive a plaque of appreciation as District’s Top Taxpayer from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for 2012 despite of the pressing  P2.2 billion tax case.

Fighting Congressman Manny Pacquiao and his wife, Sarangani Vice Governor Jinkee Pacquiao, will be awarded a plaque of recognition from BIR on February 24, 2014 in General Santos City for their excellent paying of taxes to the government in line with the Regional Tax Campaign kick-off program.

Based on the records, Manny Pacquiao had already paid P32 million tax dues to the BIR GenSan Office. According to the source, the P32 miilion tax liabilities paid by Manny Pacquiao covers the charges for the Value Added Tax (VAT).

It can be recalled that the Sarangani representative once involve in a controversy with BIR for his unpaid taxes. The bureau even froze his bank accounts. The (–foul word(s) removed–)sment of the Bureau of Internal Revenue recognized that Manny Pacquiao owes P2.2 billion as of December 31, 2012 from 2008 to 2009.

Manny Pacquiao appealed that he already paid his taxes in the United States. However, the (–foul word(s) removed–)sment of BIR was already been settled. The BIR stated earlier that they will go after the tax obligations of Manny Pacquiao.

On the other hand, Manny Pacquiao continues to negotiate on his tax problem and will retrieve documents in connection with his taxes. The boxing icon had already appealed to the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA).
