Iglesia Ni Cristo Held Charity Walk (Walkathon) for Yolanda Survivors (Photos)

One of the Philippines largest religious denomination “Iglesia Ni Cristo” (INC) is currently holding a walkathon in Metro Manila for the benefit of super typhoon Yolanda survivors.

The Worldwide Walk by the INC started early this morning, February 15, 2014 and is slated to last until 6:00 PM tonight. The INC aimed at setting a new Guinness Book of World Records for the biggest gathering.

Thousands of members of Iglesia Ni Cristo Church in Metro Manila and nearby provinces converged in major areas of Metro Manila. According to the latest estimates of Philippine National Police (PNP) the crowd is at 500,000 from Buendia to Roxas Boulevard as of Saturday morning.

Other members of the INC who are participants of the Walkathon is also lining up in the streets of Pasay City. According to INC the registration fees raised at the event will go to the Manalo Foundation for the benefit of the survivors of super typhoon Yolanda.

The MMDA and the PNP have already deployed personnel to ensure the security of participants during the entire event. The Manila Police District (MPD) already deployed around 800 personnel to the Walkathon areas.

The organizers of the Walkathon Event hope to beat the current Guinness World Record held by Singapore with a total of 70,000 participants.

The Iglesia Ni Cristo Worldwide Walk is just one of the various events conducted by INC as part of their upcoming 100 years anniversary.
