The pensioner members of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) will receive as much as P12,600 each as Christmas bonus for the year 2013 as part of the government’s P2.1 billion fund for Christmas gifts.

GSIS Bonus

The good news to GSIS pensioners was made public through GSIS President and General manager Robert Vergara who stated that this year’s allocation is 16-7 percent higher than the P1.8 billion earmarked in 2012.

According to a news article from ABS-CBN, a total of 238,490 Government retired workers who are active pensioners of GSIS are entitled to received the Christmas bonus. Active pensioners are those individuals who have been receiving their regular monthly pension as benefits for retirement, old age and disability for at least five years.

The GSIS announced also that the Christmas Cash gift was credited to the pensioner’s eCard accounts. For pensioners who are living abroad or living in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) who are on suspended status at the time of the grant of the Christmas cash gift will not be eligible to receive their bonus, but may still qualify if they activate their status not later than April 30, 2014.

In a similar report by GMA, the GSIS clarified that pensioners receiving their cash gift for the first time will receive an amount equivalent to a month’s pension but the amount will not exceed P10,000.

For pensioners who received a cash gift of more than P10,000 in previous years will get one month’s pension up to a maximum of P12,600.
