According Senator Rubio, a possible U.S. Presidential contender, China’s modest aid to the Philippines shows its politics has influenced its response to the humanitarian disaster. Sen. Rubio added that China’s donation dwarfs what it could provide, reflecting a foreign policy in which China wants to help only countries that do its bidding.

Senator Rubio was quoted as saying that, “You’ve seen the result now when you have a humanitarian crisis. The Chinese have been less willing to respond,” Rubio said.

The statement of Senator Rubio was given during the hearing of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the aid effort for the millions of victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

The Senator even compared the aid by the United States government, which according to Sen. Rubio, the US “has been willing to put aside whatever political differences when humanitarian crisis strikes,” citing what’s happening in Pakistan and Haiti during the previous years.

Senator Rubio also said that the U.S. deployment of military (–foul word(s) removed–)ets and provision of $37 million in aid demonstrated the importance of the U.S. staying internationally engaged.
