The richest Filipinos in the country, together with their respective companies and corporations made a huge donations to the victims of the super typhoon Yolanda that hits the central provinces of the Visayas region last week.
The Philippines’ billionaire are generous enough, contributing in cash and in kind donations to the m(–foul word(s) removed–)ive relief and rehabilitation efforts in the typhoon-stricken provinces of Leyte, Samar, Cebu and Iloilo to name a few.
Henry Sy and Lucio Tan, the country’s richest Filipinos, have pledged at least P100 million each through their respective companies for the humanitarian effort in the Visayas.
The company founded and owned by Henry Sy, the SM Group announced on Monday it had put up a calamity fund for Tacloban, Ormoc, province of Leyte, Cebu, Iloilo, Capiz and Bicol as well as previous victims of earthquake in Bohol and Cebu.
Lucio Tan of Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corp. has already pledged P100 million for the Yolanda relief and rehabilitation efforts in addition to a half a million 6-liter bottles of water his Asia Brewery Inc. has delivered to typhoon victims. Tan’s company have also deployed three mobile water filters in Ormoc and Tacloban, service of two King Air personal jets to ferry medicine and other relief to victims.
The third richest Filipino, billionaire Andrew Tan, owner of Megaworld, Resorts World Philippines and McDonald’s Philippines donated P50 million through the Philippine Red Cross, ABS-CBN Foundation and the United Nations Children’s Fund.
Enrique Razon Jr., the fourth richest Filipino and owner of International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI), also signed up to take the lead in bringing back the heavily damaged Tacloban City port. There are at least 30 ICTSI volunteers who were sent in Tacloban to survey and hire local workers to start the cleanup and rebuilding in partnership with the Philippine Ports Authority.
