East Asian basketball powerhouse, South Korea defeated Qatar with the final score at 79-52 and secured a semis slot against the Philippines in the recently concluded FIBA Asia Championship knockout round.
The South Koreans dominated the Qataris in their quarterfinal matchup on Friday, August 9, 2013 and forge a semifinal showdown with the host team, Gilas Pilipinas national basketball team.
The Qataris found it difficult to contain the impressive South Koreans and never allowed the middle eastern powerhouse with more than 14 points in any quarters. Korean defense forced the Qatari ballhandlers to commit 16 turnovers that they turned into 20 points.
South Korea enters the semi-finals with only one loss at the expense of the undefeated Iranian national football team. Cho Sungmin scored with 16 points for the South Koreans while on Qatar’s side, their naturalized forward Jarvis Hayes suffered with an injury late in the period.
