The Gilas Pilipinas, the men’s basketball team of the Philippines suffered their first loss against the All-Star Selection of the National Basketball League in New Zealand. The game ended with a one-point deficit against the All-Star selection ending the game with a crucial 86-85 win over Gilas Pilipinas.

The NBL All-Stars was spearheaded by imports Antoine Tisby of the Otago Nuggets, Marcel Jones of the Manawatu Jets, and Kareem Johnson and Darko Cohaderevic of the Hawkes Bay Hawks along with Tall Blacks prospect BJ Anthony, the NBL selection made a tremendous performance which made difficult for Gilas Pilipinas naturalized center Marcus Douthit.

Although the Philippines suffered their first loss against a selection of New Zealand All-Stars, Gilas coach Chot Reyes found some positive about the performances of Japeth Aguilar and June Mar Fajardo, Gilas other big man supporting Marcus Douthit.

After a successful back-to-back victory over the Hawkes Bay Hawks in Gilas’ first two outings on their New Zealand training camp, the Nationals are still raring to give out their best as they prepare for the ultimate battle which will be held this coming August 2013 in Manila, Philippines.
