New UAAP Rules Caused Online Outraged

The new UAAP residency rules which states that players from High School or the Junior UAAP Team will not be legible to play for the other UAAP member team if they decided to transfer to the Senior’s team of a UAAP member school. They should met the needed residency rules of at least two years before suiting up for rival schools.

The new rules approved by the UAAP Board Members will take effect for the next UAAP Season. The residency rules has met with criticisms and mockery on the micro-blogging site Twitter, with the hashtag #NewUAAPRule conquered the Philippines trending topics.

The UAAP board have already mandated a two-year residency for high school athletes who wants to transfer to a rival school so the college athletes follow suit.  One of the most vocal UAAP star player, Kiefer Ravena stated that he absurdity of the rule could lead to player poaching earlier than the high school level.

Based upon earlier reports, the new rule was instigated by the supposed transfer of UAAP juniors MVP Jerie Pinggoy of FEU to five-peat champion Ateneo De Manila University for his college studies.

The rule will be implemented immediately, thus affecting the current crop of graduating high school seniors, such as Jerie Pinggoy or FEU and volleyball MVP Kim Dy of De La Salle Zobel.
