Japeth Aguilar Drafted by Santa Cruz Warriors in NBA D-League

The lone Filipino aspiring basketball player in the Development League of the NBA, Japeth Aguilar succeeded in making it into the NBA D-League as he was drafted by Santa Cruz Warriors in the recently held draft.

Japeth Aguilar is now moving on closer of fulfilling his dream of becoming the first Filipino in the NBA, the former Smart Gilas mainstay was selected in the seventh round with the 13th pick  by the NBA Development League’s Santa Cruz Warrior on Friday, Saturday morning Philippine time.

The 6 foot 10 inches former varsity player of the West Kentucky University averaged with a total of 6.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks during his last season in the PBA playing for the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters.

Japeth have made several try-out sessions from different NBA teams such as the San Antonio Spurs and the New Orleans Bobcats but have not received any invites.

The Santa Cruz Warriors which is considered as one of the top teams in the NBA-Development League ranked at the top 4 teams. The team was officially affiliated with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.

The chance for Japeth Aguilar to play with the NBA’s minor league will open up more opportunities for him as he tries his luck in the world’s most popular basketball league.
