Besse Cooper: World’s Oldest Person According to Guinness Celebrates 116th Birthday

The wold’s oldest person according to the records from the Guinness World Records, Besse Copper have celebrated her 116th birthday on Sunday, August 26, 2012. She was one of the only eight people who have reached the age of 116 years old.

Besse Cooper was born on August 26, 1896 in Tennesse but moved to Monroe during World War 1 to find a job as a teacher. Her middle name was Brown and she married her husband Luther in 1924. They were blessed with four children.

The world’s oldest person’s birthday was honored with the ribbon cutting of a bridge named after her in Monroe, Georgia. The newly completed bridge on New Hope Church Road in Walton City was the place where she lived.

During the event three of her children were present. The ribbon cutting was held on August 24 for the bridge opening. Right now Besee has 12 grandchildren and more than a dozen great-grandchildrin and great-great grandchildren.

Besse Cooper lost the title as the oldest person alive when Guinness discovered back in May 2011 the existence of Maria Gomes Valentin from Brazil who was 48 days older than Besse Copper but on June 21, 2011, Maria p(–foul word(s) removed–)ed away and Besse reclaimed the title.

When asked about the secrets, the oldest living person on Earth, Besse Cooper just answered “I mind my own business, and I don’t eat junk food.”
