Osama Bin Ladin, the most prominent leader of Al-Qaeda was killed by US Forces in a mansion outside of Islamabad, Pakistan. A senior U.S. military official had confirmed the reported death of Osama Bin Ladin.
President Obama had announced yesterday, Sunday night U.S. Time the death of the Al-Qaeda leader was one of the biggest achievement attributed to the US forces in their quest against terrorism. According to U.S. sources including a senior official and a congressional source said that bin Laden was shot in the head.
President Obama was quoted as saying “Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan,” Obama said. “A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body” says the President.
Meanwhile former US President George W. Bush was quoted as saying “This momentous achievement marks a victory for America, for people who seek peace around the world, and for all those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001. The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done” says the former President.
The site of the attacked was made by elite US forces at Abbotabad, Pakistan, about 100 kilometers outside Pakistan’s capital of Islamabad. The building was three stories tall, and about eight times larger than any of the buildings around it.
The news of the death of Osama Bin Laden had brought some relief to the grieving victims of the September 11 attacked of the World Trade Center. Rejoicing with the death of Osama Bin Ladin was celebrated throughout the United States.
With the death of Osama Bin Laden, United States diplomats and US facilities around the world were placed on high alert for a possible retaliation against United States by supporters of Osama Bin Laden.
