Hundreds of homes have been destroyed because of severe storm that hit Southern US.

Southern areas of United States were swept by tornadoes and storms as death tool jumps to at least 200 people according to authorities.

Five states have been into huge devastations that includes Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee and Virginia.

Among the five states, Alabama was reported to have the most number of fatalities. On Thursday, 149 individuals died due to the violent weather. Based on the reports, most of the victims were identified to be from 16 counties of Alabama making it to be the worst-hit state.

In DeKalb County, known to be Alabama’s north-eastern area, almost 30 lives have been claimed while the death toll in the city of Tuscaloosa already reached 36 as of Thursday morning, Mayor Walter Maddox had declared.

Meanwhile, the officials of Mississippi emergency management announced before dawn that there had been 14 unreported fatalities to consider. As a result, Death toll in Mississippi now increases to 32. Moreover, the strong devastation also took 11 lives in Georgia while there were at least one person perished in both Arkansas and Tennessee.

Hundreds of households suffered without electricity. There were 363,511 customers of Alabama Power lost power as of 4 a.m. on Thursday. Furthermore, 52,000 customers of Georgia Power also had no power starting 8 a.m.

Some meteorologist believed that the tornado that hit southern US could be the most devastating storm they had ever experienced.

States of emergency have already been declared by the governors in the states of Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia before the death toll reportedly increased.

Dozens of roads have been blocked and hundreds of houses including business establishments were also destroyed. Hundreds of injured individuals still undergo for recovery but others still extend their efforts to find those who are missing.
