Ireland’s green party has pulled out of the ruling alliance. The party has decided to withdraw its consent to act as an ally in the coalition government of Brain Cowen. The leader of the Green party John Gormley said that the people have lost confidence in politics. The move is believed to serve as an initiative to bring the general elections on March 11.

This move has wiped out the two seat majority of the ruling alliance and has raised serious problems for the government. It has also posed a serious question of the course of essential finance bill. This move of Green Party follows the decision of Prime Minister Brain Cowen. Brian Cowen decided to remain as the Prime Minister but to quit the leadership of his Fianna Fail Party. The opponents believed that this decision was absurd.

Whereas Fianna Fail has urged Mr. John Gormley and his party to stay in the alliance and ensure the financial bill. It was emphasized because the bill was needed as portion of Republic of Ireland’s bail-out package. Ireland was compelled to accept 113 billion dollars bail out of EU and IMF in last year November. The PM said that getting the financial bill is the main issue.

On the other side of the story, Green party is expected to join the opposition immediately but the party was optimistic about supporting the finance bill. The Green party is also hopeful that Fianna Fail would speed up the approval of the legislative process.

Mr. John Gormley at a meeting in Dublin Hotel said that the patience of their party has been tested to limits. It has been long that they have been trying to remove the doubts related to the party leadership but all efforts are in vain. Fianna Fail has not tried to establish a good communication channel between the alliances. This has in turn broken our trust.

The PM Mr. Cowen is now left with seven ministers in the cabinet which is the minimum allowed ministers constitutionally. The two ministers out of 15 leave Fianna Fail alone at the platform of coalition. The analysts believe that the current political system of the country is in chaos and a wave of hatred exists between the coalitions. The PM said that it is impossible to deal with the situation within a week.

The reason for the call of general election was the reshuffle on Thursday. The Green party did not accept the reshuffle and blocked it. However the decision to act as PM and not Fianna Fail leader created a response of anger in the other allies. Fine Gael, Sinn Fein and Labour parties opposed such a decision. In nutshell, the PM is losing the coalition.
