Rio de Janeiro has suffered a death toll of 741 to date and 207 people missing after the worst mudslide that was happened a week ago.

The list of missing people has been already released by Rio de Janeiro state prosecutor’s office. They also reported that the death toll has reached around 1,000.

Teresopolis and Nova Friburgo said that there were around 300 missing and may be buried under the flash flood that shattered hundreds of homes.

The rescuers are still digging some affected areas on the near neighborhoods also affected by severe rains within the southeast Brazil.

Army helicopters are also out to rescue survivors on remote areas and help dig corpses from broken houses. On the other hand, local people refuse to leave their houses for fear of looters. They prefer to stay on their houses rather than evacuated.

Icaro Moreno, president of EMOP, said that the mudslides affect the country badly that the geography of the region has extremely changed, the towns were completely reshaped, streams turned into wide, deep rivers.

Federal government set up a warning system that could alert local communities if natural dangers approached them again.
