The Democratic Party member and the member of U.S House of representatives Gabrielle Giffords has been shot in Arizona. Five other have been reported to be killed. The 40 years old wife of astronaut Mark E. Kelly was in at a public meeting when a gunman shot her from a very close range.
Gabrielle Giffords is a graduate of Cornell University. She had been in the Arizona State Senate and Arizona House of Representatives prior to U.S House of Representatives. The congresswomen had been influential and in the news headlines previously.

The reports currently say that the doctor treating her is very optimistic about her recovery although she is critically injured. A federal judge and a nine year old girl are also among the five people killed in the rampage shooting. ‘Tragedy for our country’ was the remark of President Barack Obama on this situation.

President Obama has urged the nation to stand with the families and relatives of the victims and also to remember them in prayers as well. He said that Ms. Gabrielle Giffords is an extra-ordinary public servant and that he regarded her as a personal friend.
