The photo of a studious boy in class with his toddler brother on his lap has gone viral on social media. According to ABS-CBN, the boy on the photo is nine-year-old Mateo Baño, a grade 3 pupil.
The photo went viral after Shyla Blasico, a teacher from J. Blanco Elementary School in South Cotabato, shared his photo on Social media.
Mateo was determined to finish his studies, so he brings his baby brother with him to school on a regular basis since his mother passed away.
His mother was reportedly passed away last year due to ectopic pregnancy.
Teacher Blasico said that Baño had to take care and bring his little brother to school because no one could take care of him at home.
“Dahil walang mag-aalaga sa kapatid niya dinadala niya na lang ito sa klase para di maka absent,” teacher Blasico said.
Since posting the photo online, teacher Blasico has been getting “words of encouragement from netizens as well as help from good-hearted people.”
Although there have been many people offering cash, she said what they need right now is food.
Soon enough, donations arrived at the school in the form of foods and other basic commodities.
Many of the netizens were quick and commented on the photo:
“Mam Shyla maraming salamat s pag post nyo sa mga bata maraming salamat s pagtulong s knila. God Bless them & ur Family too,” Netizen said.
