Mitsubishi PH Released Investigation Results Over Alleged SUA Incidents
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines has released the report of the 3rd party regarding the Sudden Unintended Acceleration (SUA) incidents of Mitsubishi Montero Sport.
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) put an end to the fear and doubt of the public regarding the safety of the previous generation of Mitsubishi Montero Sport. MMC has already released the investigation results of the alleged SUA incidents.
The investigation results show that the incidents have no technical issues involved in the consecutive SUA incidents and inability to stop the Montero Sport, according to Horiba Mira Ltd., an automotive engineering company based in the United Kingdom, which is third-party who investigated the incidents.
The doubts for 2010-2015 models of Mitsubishi Montero Sport was aimed to remove by MMC by contracting Horiba Mira, which started to investigate last June 2016 and release its final result last September 2016.
Horiba explained that the result of the investigation shows that the drivers mistakenly applied the accelerator instead of the brake pedal. The driver might have thought that they were pressing the brake pedal but actually, they were pressing the accelerator resulting in inability to stop the vehicle.
“Other root causes hypotheses have been excluded because they would require simultaneous, but temporary, malfunction of both the engine control and the vehicle braking system without fault conditions being logged by any vehicle systems and DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Code) being recorded. Since these are independent systems, the possibility of simultaneous failure is extremely low,” said by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines in a statement quoted by Top Gear.
The statement also explained that if a failure in the system occurs the driver could still disengage the transmission or stop the vehicle using the brake pedal. The vehicles involved in SUA claims undergoes a series of test and no adverse behavior was found during the observation.
Due to the results of the investigation performed by Horiba, Mitsubishi Philippines assures the public that 2010-2015 models of Montero Sport in not defective and safe to use.
