Leni Gets Warm Welcome In Mindanao Visit After Resignation

Vice President Leni Robredo visited three provinces in Mindanao, a day after filing her resignation from the Duterte Cabinet.

A day after she officially tendered her resignation from the Cabinet of President Rodrigo Duterte, Vice President Leni Robredo visited his home region, Mindanao on Tuesday, and she was warmly accommodated by the people.

VP Leni quit as the chairperson of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) but as promised, she continues to work as the nation’s vice president.

She fled to the project sites of Angat-Buhay program in Compostela Valley, Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Norte, where she arranged dialogues with local officials and also with victims of Typhoon Pablo.

Although majority of the Mindanaoans (people of Mindanao) are supposedly supporters and loyalists of the President, they welcomed VP Leni warmly by shaking hands, hugging and expressing their gratitude for coming over to check the situation of the ‘often neglected’ part of the Philippines.

In a report by ABS-CBN, VP Leni gave them goats, chicken and seedlings as aid to their livelihood.

The Angat-Buhay Program was an initiative launched by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) last October to bridge partnerships between different stakeholders and the local government units for addressing specific problems related to poverty.

In an interview with ABS-CBN over the television, vice-presidential chief of staff said she continues to work because it was only the Cabinet that she left and not her post as the vice president.

Meanwhile, Dy said that Robredo never complained about President Duterte despite their different views on various issues, stressing that she has been very professional in how she deal with the chief executive.

Dy pointed out that VP Leni has no quarrel with President Duterte and does not have bad feelings with him.
