US President-elect Donald Trump Congratulated By President Duterte

Minutes after Republican Donald Trump’s presidential victory, Philippine President Duterte issued a statement sending the American President-elect a congratulatory message.

Just after he was declared winner, United States President-elect Donald Trump was congratulated by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte of the Philippines, the U.S.’ 70-year-long ally.

In an official statement issued by the Office of the Communications Secretary on Wednesday, November 9, President Duterte wished “President-elect Trump success in the next four years as Chief Executive and commander in chief” of the United States military.

The statement also said that Duterte looks forward to working with the administration of President-elect Trump, to benefit the enhanced relations between the Philippines and the United States of America, which is anchored on mutual respect, mutual benefit and shared commitment to democratic ideals and rule of law.

The Philippine President also commended the democratic traditions of the U.S., where they practiced through the presidential election.

Duterte said that the “United States presidential elections is a testament to the enduring traditions” of the country’s democratic system and the American way of life.

Also, he said, that the two-party system gives the American voters the freedom to choose, based on party platforms and not just on personalities.

The 70 year old business mogul was elected as the 45th Chief Executive of the United States after he secured 288 electoral votes, way more than the 270 electoral votes needed to win the seat at the White House.

Meanwhile, his rival, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton got only 218 electoral votes, making her lose the chance to work at the Oval Office.

Trump will start his job as the American President when Outgoing President Barack Obama would step down on January 20, 2017.
