Obama To Welcome Lebron James, Cavs Before Leaving White House

Lebron James and teammates are scheduled to visit the White House next week.

Outgoing US President Barack Obama will welcome the 2016 NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers to the White House.

According to the White House press office, the visit will be on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 2:05 p.m.

This came a day before they play the Washington Wizards in the nation’s capitol.

The press office said, the visit continues Obama’s tradition of “honoring sports teams for their efforts to give back to their communities.”

However, this will be his last championship-honoring before he leaves office as the 44th US President.

“It’s going to be special for the simple fact that not only am I going to be there with my Cleveland teammates, but I’m there when Barack is on his way out,” Lebron James said.

“Like I said, he’s been a great role model, especially to African-American kids. What he did was something that you never thought could be possible”.

James considered it significant that he is at the White House while the black president is on his way out and his last term is ending.

Cavaliers made history in NBA by becoming the first team to overcome a 3-1 deficit to win the championship.

Following the Cavaliers’ championship against the Golden State Warriors, Obama placed a congratulatory telephone call to coach Tyronn Lue, and issued the invitation to the team.

“You should be proud of yourself,” Obama said in the phone call. “You did a great job on this and I really do think you brought cohesion, steadiness and a focus to the team. It really showed itself. You should feel good about what you did. Pretty good for a first year coach.”

Last week, cavs opened their new season and remain undefeated after five games.

Fans of the team who can’t get into White House with LeBron James & Co. will be able to watch a live steam of the event via www.whitehouse.gov/live.

President John F. Kennedy was the first president to invite NBA champions to the White House when the Boston Celtics won in 1963.
