The face of the president of the most powerful country in the world was used by the PNP as a “Halloween mask” as part of their campaign for coming November 1.
The face of United States of America (USA) President Barack Obama is one of the most popular among all ages all over the world.
But amid the tirades of Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte against the US and its supposed dictates to the country’s officials and agencies, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has their own way of making use of Obama’s face.
The PNP Police Community Relations Group (PNP PCRG) has started to distribute horror-themed masks with safety tips for the Halloween season printed at the back and one of the designs available for distribution was the face of President Obama.
Critics say that using the face of Obama in Halloween masks is a sign being being disrespectful of the PNP.
However, PNP PCRG Director S/Supt. Gilbert Cruz was quick to explain that they do not intend to defame President Obama by using his face in their Halloween mask and in fact, the PNP decided to use the Obama mask “in a good way” as they pique the curiosity of the public.
He said that aside from the face of President Obama, there were also other faces of prominent people, including the very face of the commander-in-chief, President Duterte.
Rather, Cruz clarified that the program is part of the anti-criminality campaign of the PNP and the distribution of the Halloween mask is their way of guiding the motorists and commuters who will visit their loved ones who went ahead in another life.
He added that flyers are usually thrown by commuters as they do not spice the attention while masks are being brought home and eventually, the message printed at the back is being read and hopefully, understood.
“We’ve been getting many requests to produce Obama masks. So I thought, there’s no problem with that. We use the people’s curiosity to relay our objective of teaching them crime prevention tips”, Police Senior Supt. Cruz said.
The Obama masks and other Halloween masks of the PNP PCRG were distributed at different establishments and train stations in Quezon City.
