Iloilo City Declares Mourning Days

Iloilo City Declares Mourning Days – The Iloilo City government has recently declared September 29 to October 17 as mourning days for Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago, after passing away last Thursday.

An Executive Order has been made by Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog also added that flags in the city would be at half-mast in the said period in honor of the Ilongga stateswoman.

According to the said E.O. No. 42, Mayor Mabilog said that the late Senator “has brought pride and honor to all Ilonggos by serving in all three branches of the Philippine government during her lifetime.”

During his lifetime, Defensor-Santiago served in all three branches of the government: The Judicial branch, the executive branch, and the legislative branch.

The late Senator was born in Iloilo City on June 15, 1945, and studied in Iloilo from Preschool to college.

AN EXECUTIVE ORDER DECLARING SEPTEMBER 29, 2016 AS A DAY OF MOURNING AND ORDERING THE FLYING OF THE FLAG AT HALF-MAST IN THE CITY OF ILOILO WHEREAS,

WHEREAS, The Iloilo City Government is one with the nation in expressing its sadness and grief over the de@th of Former Senator Miriam Palma Defensor-Santiago;

WHEREAS, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago is an Ilongga, born in Iloilo last June 15, 1945;

WHEREAS, Ms. Defensor-Santiago has brought pride and honor to all Ilonggos by serving in all three branches of the Philippine government during her lifetime;

WHEREAS, Ms. Defensor-Santiago has brought pride and honor to all Ilonggos by serving in all three branches of the Philippine government during her lifetime;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JED PATRICK E. MABILOC, City Mayor of lloilo, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby order the flying of the flag an half-mast effective today until October 7, 2016 (Friday) to show our solidarity and to sympathize with the grieving family of this admirable Ilongga.
