You Will See Me More Often In China, Says Duterte

President Duterte clarified that his trips to China is only to reiterate the rights of Filipino fishermen in the West Philippine Sea.

President Rodrigo Duterte on September 22, Thursday, said that he will likely be traveling to China more often soon.

Duterte’s pronouncements followed after castigating the United Nations (UN), United States (US) and European Union (EU) for dwelling on the series of extrajudicial killings (EJK) in the Philippines.

As he spoke at the inauguration of the Misamis Oriental Power Plant, Duterte said that he will soon travel to China to reiterate the rights of Filipino fishermen to find their livelihood in the West Philippine Sea.

Duterte to go to China

“You will see me more often in China”, said Duterte. “One of the things that I would demand if I go to the mainland China is: ‘Give us back our fishing rights’. That’s one. Ma-negosyo ‘tong pobre kong mga kababayan (So that my poor countrymen can make a living)”.

According to Pres. Duterte, he will also urge China to invest, including the possibility of a joint venture, on gas resources which can be found on the disputed territory.
