On the second day of 28th and 29th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Vientiane, Laos, President Rodrigo Duterte emerged on a different fashion style.

On the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Summit on Tuesday night, Laos time, Duterte wore Barong Tagalog while all of the heads of states were in business attire.

On Wednesday, Duterte with the other members of the delegation came to the venue wearing coat and tie.

On the photo, Duterte is seen wearing a black coat, paired with white inner long sleeves, dark tie and black shoes.

As we all know, Mr. President seldom wears black shoes, instead he is into brown one.

His get-up on Tuesday put him again in the spotlight when he trooped into a conference hall in the Laotian capital wearing a traditional Filipino shirt with sleeves rolled up while the other Southeast Asian leaders were dressed in dark business suits.

In the Philippines, Filipinos wear the “barong” shirt on formal occasions too, but with sleeves buttoned down at the wrists, unlike what Duterte did.

Rolled-up sleeves, same on Duterte’s, are considered too casual for any formal setting, like the well-prestiged summit of the ASEAN. He rolled his sleeves down when the Laotian president gave a speech to open the summit.

This Wednesday, there will be a series of other meetings and will be followed by a summit on Thursday between leaders from Asean and other countries, including the United States, China, Russia, India, South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

The 10-nation ASEAN comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The theme for this year’s summits was set as “Turning Vision into Reality for a Dynamic ASEAN Community”.
