Philippine Team Overall Champ, International Dragon Boat Competition

The Philippine Navy Dragon Boat team came victorious being the overall champion in the 2016 Ordos International Nadam Dragon boat tournament, Philippine Embassy in China announced.

In a report by GMA News, the Philippine Navy Dragon boat team was declared overall champion after winning first place in all four categories: 300-meter full race, 500-meter full race, 500-meter mix race, and the 3,000-meter full race.

Although, the team came in second place in the 300-meter mix race, and came third in the 3,000-meter mix race.

The report added that there 22 active Navy members plus two civilians composed the Philippine team that competed in the international competition which was held in Inner Mongolia, August 21 to 26.

The Philippine embassy in China hosted a lunch for the winning team last Saturday in Beijing as part of the celebration.

The Third Ordos International Nadam Fair and the First Ordos International Creative Culture Conference is a 5-day event wherein different culture, sports, tourism, and modern service industries in the city of Ordos, had built an “innovative platform for cultural communication and also enhance mass entrepreneurship and innovation among local people.”

The City of Ordos already held the Ordos International Nadam Fair successfully and has already established a unique signature of charm and influence.

Meanwhile, the Philippines has been winning different international Dragon boat competitions before. The dragon boat is a Chinese tradition wherein it is human-powered, meaning that passengers need to paddle to move.

Racing using these dragon boats already undergone more than 2000 years ago in China and in Hongkong, it was then merged with the modern international sport.
