Qualified To be Given a Hero’s Burial- Are We Forgetting Something?

Qualifications of Marcos to be given a hero’s Burial is standing on the face of the country, in the front of his many critics. Why remember the Martial Law and forget what he has done for the good of the country? Isn’t he really qualified?

Critics says that Marcos is no hero for the mother land, and is not qualified to be buried in LNMB and be remembered as a hero for he only brought tragic events in the history. Is Marcos achievements and contribution to the country are just merely myth and fraud?

This article does not intend to offend, insult humiliate or intimidate others for their belief. This is made not to promote hatred, violence and discrimination nor to promote stereotyping and denigration towards others.

The late President Ferdinand Marcos’ achievements is incomparable to the rest of the elected president of the Philippines and is qualified enough to be buried in LNMB. The effects of “Martial Law” is undeniable and is condemned by many critics that opposes his burial in LNMB.

But looking and accepting single sided stories and opinions will not uplift the truth and Filipinos will still be living in the darkest and deepest ditch, looking on the light of the bright sun above knowing the impossibilities of reaching it.

People always base on one side just to justify their beliefs. Martial law is a history that will never be forgotten by every single person who experience the cruelty of the decree.

At the beginning if the reign of Marcos, on 1965, he started rebuilding the Philippines constructing the Philippine Children’s Hospital, Philippine Heart Center, Philippine Kidney Institute and the Lung Center of the Philippines.

Marcos promoted the Arts and Nationalism, proposed the construction of Coconut Palace, Manila Film Center, Philippine International Convention Center, Folk Arts Theater and built hospitals, schools, roads and bridges than all presidents combined.

The economic state of the country reach to its highest level. The currency exchange of the 1 dollar is equivalent to 2 Pesos. In 1968, the Philippines became self-sufficient in rice that the country has exported 7 million US dollar worth of rice.

But because of the increase of the number of rebels and communist group that attacked Malacanang in 1970, Marcos was forced to declare Martial Law in 1972 to compel the rising anarchy that threaten the economic state of the country.

Ninoy Aquino, Marcos friend and a fellow Upsilonian brother was put into jail together with the leaders of the suspected rebels.

And the cruelty begins that made the Philippine history full of biased and one-sided stories controlled by media.

  1. THANK YOU FOR YOUR FAIR REPORTING IN THIS COLUMN , I WOULD LIKE TO ADD A THEOLOGICAL COMMENT JUST TO ANSWER THE QUESTION ON YOUR HEADLINE. TO THOSE WHO ARE AGAINST THE BURIAL OF MARCOS TO LNMB . YES, YOU ARE FORGETTING SOMETHING, AND THAT’S THE LAW OF GOD. GOD HAS FORGIVEN YOU WITH ALL YOUR SINS, HE DIED IN THE CROSS AND RISE AGAIN . A FULFILLMENT OF HIS PROMISE THAT WE ARE NOW SAVE. I WOULD LIKE TO ASK YOU PEOPLE THIS, IF GOD HAS FORGIVEN YOUR SINS, AND WHO ARE YOU NOT TO FORGIVE ? CALL YOURSELVES A CHRISTIAN OR CHILD OF GOD BUT IF YOU DON’T FOLLOW HIS LAW THEN YOU CAN GO TO HELL. AS SIMPLE AS THAT. PRESIDENT DUTERTE I APPLAUD YOU AND PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING WHAT IS RIGHT FOR THE COUNTRY AND WHAT IS RIGHT IN THE EYES OF GOD. GOD BLESS OUR COUNTRY AND GOD BLESS YOU AND THE PILIPINO PEOPLE . 2. It is undeniable that the Marcos regime put forth the Philippines on the world map despite rampant graft and corruption ( a disease endemic to PhilGov even today ).

A good example set forth by Marcos is the establishment of the MetroManila Commission/DepartmentOfHumanSettlements which conducted urban masterplanning efforts to shape the future of the metropolis well in advance.
The nightmare of traffic problems now tormenting the city is an offshoot of CoryAquino’s shutting down these important government bodies that could have prepared adequate urban planning solutions aimed at dealing with future challenges. A city’s burgeoning skyline may look impressive from a distance but if its total infrastructure is broken then it’s inhabitants bear it’s insufferable consequences.

  3. And to that sector of society that still harbors the pain and make protests regarding the approval of Marcos’ burial, I have these to say:

The world has turned around many, many times since the martial law years and the time has arrived to work together and face the future of the country.

Every nation on earth has experienced a history of mistakes made and the best thing to do under the circumstances is to LEARN from those mistakes so that they would not be repeated.

It would be a very good idea to turn this pent-up energy of hate into something more productive in building the nation, instead of expending it needlessly to dig up past wounds that merely sap the spirit of the Filipino people.
FILIPINOS SHOULD LEARN TO MOVE ON.
