Duterte Gives P2M Bonus To Hidilyn Diaz’ Prize
Duterte Gives P2M Bonus – As Hidilyn Diaz, silver medalist in the 2016 Rio Olympics weightlifting event, meets President Rodrigo Duterte, she was given a bonus of P2 million added to her P5 million cash incentive.
In a report by Inquirer, Diaz was paid a courtesy call to President Duterte in Davao City, Thursday night.
“She got a P5M prize, I added another P2 million,” Duterte said.
Duterte, who is pleased, promised to increase the said P5 million prize with another P2 million as he gave the check worth P5 million to Diaz as part of the government’s pledged to Olympic medalists.
The said cash incentive was given in accordance to the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Law or Republic Act 10699.
As Duterte presented Diaz, he urged people to put discipline plus the help from the government and the “miracles” could happen after.
“It is with great pride that I present Hidilyn Diaz, a Zamboangueña. If we put just put in the discipline and a little help from the national government, we’d get miracles and surprises along the way,” Duterte said.
Diaz ended the 20-year medal drought of the Philippines after winning the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics since Onyok Velasco’s last silver medal win at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
Hidilyn Diaz was also the first Filipina to win an Olympic medal, as well as the first weightlifter to do so.
The new Filipino Olympic medalist even said that she is planning to build a weightlifting gym near their house to help aspiring competitors in the sport.
