Quezon City, one of the biggest cities in Metro Manila, sis also the place for many street children roaming in the city wherein, most of them do not have enough food to eat, clothing, and doesn’t have proper education. That’s why the QCLIC’s move to open doors for children could be a start for a change in the society.

This move attracted many street kids to learn new things rather than seeking alms on the streets.

According to a report by GMA News, the Quezon City Library has been receiving more guests daily after starting the move. The QCLIC said that there are atleast ten street children visiting the library everyday reading books, color illustrations, playing, and also watching educational videos with the help of the library staff and volunteers.

“These small library guests, who usually visit the QCLIC in slippers, shorts and sando, enjoy learning new words, explore the world through reading, and learn the values they will be proud of when they grow old,” said head librarian Emelita Villanueva as quoted in the report.

As recognized by the staff that these children usually come to the library on an empty stomach, the Villanueva said that the library provides them with some snacks.

Villanueva added that aside from teaching them how to read, they also listen to their life stories and concerns, and even provide them with advice.

Reports say that there are about 2,800 street children roaming in Quezon City.

This action by the QCLIC could help the minimize the dangers that could happen to these children in the streets. This also might inspire others to just come in libraries and learn rather do unlawful things.
